One of Christopher Lee’s darker films — and Mario Bava’s more gothic ones — is “The Whip and the Body,” a sort of ghostly-mystery with a perverse twist. It suffers from a slack midsection, but it’s still loaded with wonderful direction and tons of atmosphere.

Kurt (Christopher Lee) has just returned after years in disgraced exile, and immediately grates on his sickly father and mild brother Christian (Tony Kendall). Also it turns out that Kurt’s ex-girlfriend Nevenka (Daliah Lavi) has married Kurt, but she can’t deny her feelings after a Kurt whips and seduces her.

Then Kurt is found dead. Everyone — from Christian to the servants — has a reason to want Kurt dead, but no one knows who did it. And Nevenka is acting strangely, as she is visited and whipped by Kurt when no one is around. Is she the victim of a ghost, or something far more terrible?

Mario Bava knew how to make creepy gothic movies (a la “Kill Baby Kill”), but he gives it a perverse twist here. “Thhe Whip and the Body” is gleefully split between ghost story, murder mystery, and dark erotic story of S&M and personal obsession. This is not cheerful, family-oriented fare.

As with his other gothic movies, this one is set in a creepy, crumbling estate, full of dark corners, grimy walls, torches and weird coloured lights. It does suffer from an uninspired middle section, between Kurt’s death and the coffin’s unearthing, which is mostly Nevenka wandering around hallucinatng.

And the direction is very solid — disturbed, stormy, slightly off-kilter, and peppered with perversely erotic love scenes. The sight of Lee whipping the clothes off a moaning Lavi borders on campy, but it just stays on this side, and remains darkly intense right to the creepy finale.

Lee seems to relish his juicy, devilish role as a whip-wielding nasty who doesn’t care that he drove a girl to suicide. Even dead, he’s the most powerful presence in here. And Lavi does a solid enough job as his ex-lover, who can’t cope with her obsessive, unhealthy adoration for him and thinks that he’s risen from the grave to torment her.

The only problem would be Miracle Pictures’ edition of this great thriller, which you could probably guess by the odd photoshop composite cover (including Lee looking at least twenty years older than he does in the film). The sharpness and colour are kind of sketchy, and I get the impression that some film edges have been trimmed.

“The Whip and the Body” lives up to its name, taking the sexual edge of gothic horror and running with it. Not Bava’s best, but an excellent movie nonetheless

Finally releasing “Fat Albert” on DVD gives new life to this series that all ages can enjoy. Growing up watching this show really made me happy, like the Cosby Kids got when “The Brown Hornet” would come on! This collection of the top 5 shows is not a bad sampler and for $10, you can’t go wrong. All five of the episodes are on the 20 episode ultimate collection, too. In case you don’t know what episodes are on the disc, here they are, in order:

Buy,Download, Or Stream Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids! Click Here

CREATIVITY – Fat Albert and the kids get the fever to start a band, but they don’t have enough money to buy “real” instruments. Using the junkyard, they come up with a creative musical solution.

TAKE TWO, THEY’RE SMALL – Fat Albert’s cousin, Justin, and his cool friend, Harlow, have a habit of shoplifting from stores! Will the kids join in or do the right thing?

SMOKE GETS IN YOUR HAIR – Wombley has been seen around town smoking cigarettes. Will the kids follow suit or realize that smoking is bad for your health?

SWEET SORROW – Fat Albert’s figure skating friend, Roberta, offers to help the kids with their hockey skills. Unfortunately, she seems troubled by other things on her mind.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids! Click Here

POLL TIME – Hugo (black) and Baron (white) play race politics against each other in the school election until Fat Albert and the kids come up with an alternative.

This early 2004 release DVD is a great sampler on the original series. It features 5 episodes that were voted the best. They are: “Creativity” (the gang is low on cash but uses their imaginations to make the things they can’t afford); “Take Two, They’re Small” (a lesson in the dumbness of shoplifting); “Smoke Gets In Your Hair” (great episode for kids on smoking); “Sweet Sorrow” (a girl with her own troubles takes time to help the gang); Poll Time” (tackles racism).

If you want more than just a starter, try the 2005 DVD sets, “Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, Vol. 1: The Original Animated TV Series”, this is the first attempt to release the shows in their original intended order, so volume 1 starts at the beginning in 1972 with the first 12 episodes. And the early years were the best in my opinion. There was a set in 2004 called the “Ultimate Collection” which kind of randomly chose 20 episodes from across the years for each of 4 volumes, but that set is already out of print. Yet the issue on this page made at the same time is still available. Well, no matter how you buy it, get yourself some Fat Albert today!

After watching The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984), I checked on here and was surprised to see relatively few reviews. Maybe people aren’t all that aware of the movie, or maybe they’re put off by the fact that one of its’ stars is Mickey Rourke (or The Human Ashtray, as actress Kim Basinger once referred to him as), an actor who showed a lot of promise early in his career (some called him the next Brando) but eventually fell from grace due to his poor choice of film roles, grandiose ego, erratic behavior, and slovenly demeanor.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Pope of Greenwich Village! Click Here

The Pope of Greenwich Village, mostly directed by Stuart Rosenberg, who also did one of my favorite films in Cool Hand Luke (1967), stars Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, Daryl Hannah, and Burt Young, who many probably remember most as Sylvester Stallone’s brother-in-law from the Rocky films. Also appearing are Kenneth McMillan (Dune, Cat’s Eye), Jack Kehoe (Midnight Run), M. Emmet Walsh (Blade Runner), and Geraldine Page (The Trip to Bountiful). Also, it is noted that Michael Cimino (The Deer Hunter) made some uncredited directorial contributions to the film, but the extent of his involvement is unclear. I believe he was the original director, but then either quit or got fired…they’re a temperamental lot out there in Hollywood…

Set in the Italian section of New York’s Greenwich Village, the film features two characters, Charlie (Rourke), a well-dressed maitre d’ with aspirations of someday owning his own restaurant, and Paulie (Roberts), Charlie’s ever-scheming cousin who works in the same restaurant as Charlie, as a waiter. After Paulie gets caught skimming the checks (let’s say the table orders six entrees…Paulie charges them for six, but then only reports three, pocketing the difference), both he and Charlie get canned. Now out of work and bills up the wazoo, Charlie must now find another job, but Paulie, who’s got plans to buy into a racehorse, comes forth with a scheme, based on a tip, of a large amount of cash located in a safe of a local business. Reluctant, but needing the money, Charlie agrees to participate, and they do manage to crack the safe with help from an accomplice played by McMillan, but shortly things go sour, resulting in an accidental death of a cop. Not only that, but Charlie soon learns that the money they took belongs local psychotic Mob boss `Bedbug Eddie’ (Young), something Paulie neglected to mention, who is more put off by the fact someone had the nerve to rob him, rather than the missing money. Let’s just say Eddie’s not too happy about the situation, and when Eddie’s not happy, people tend to lose body parts.

I really enjoyed this film. I thought Rourke did well, playing his role very cool and calm, with a level of subtly he has since lost, as, I believe, he got too full of himself and became eccentric for the sake of being eccentric. Roberts is wonderful as Paulie, the smarmy, constantly in motion, hyperactive, fast-talking dreamer with a completely perverse sense of logic. An example of that is when he and Charlie just got fired for their restaurant gig, and Charlie is upset with Paulie as it was all his fault, but Paulie doesn’t see it that way because if he knew his petty thievery was going to get Charlie fired, he wouldn’t have done it…ergo, since he didn’t know the outcome, it wasn’t his fault. The weakest element in the film, I thought, was Hannah, who played Charlie’s girlfriend Diane. There just seemed to be something missing, but this is a minor point as the rest of the actors, mostly seasoned pros, support the story well, especially that of Burt Young. I don’t think his role required any great stretch for him, but he was definitely fun to watch. The real standout performance for me was that of Geraldine Page. Even though she only appeared in two scenes, and had about a total of five minutes on screen, she really made and impression (the second scene, in particular), so much so she was nominated for best supporting actress for her role in this film. She didn’t win, but she did win a year later for her role in The Trip to Bountiful (1985). The film itself has a very authentic feel, much like that of a film others have mention being Mean Streets (1973), as it appears most of the film was shot on location, instead of on sets and back lots. Ultimately, Pope is a knock off of Mean Streets, but a really good one. I thought the music chosen for the film very good, especially that of Sinatra’s Summer Wind, as it really set the mood for the movie well. The film runs right around two hours, but it didn’t feel like it, as I was taken in by the story and highly interested in its outcome. Some points the movie did seem to drag a little, but I felt the time was used well as the plot was actually fairly intricate, involving many different elements, including a smattering of humor, raising the film above your standard mafia flick. I was mildly surprised by the lack of violence in the film, and even the most memorable point, a person losing an appendage, is off screen, allowing for the viewer to visualize rather than see it. My three favorite scenes are, in no particular order, the one with Geraldine Page’s character talking with the crooked cops, Paulie giving Charlie tips on women, and Charlie and Paulie at the racetrack, looking for that ever elusive winner.

The non-anamorphic wide screen print on this DVD looks pretty good and the audio ain’t bad, but it both could be better. MGM provides little in the way of special features, including only a trailer. As far as the meaning of the title of the film? Well, you’ll just have to wait until the very end…

Cookieman108

Released at a time when comedies were measured by the number of exposed women’s breasts or the quality of vomiting scenes, THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE was a refreshing movie that had actual character development and humor based on wit, not bodily functions. Paulie and Charlie (Rourke and Roberts) play two citizens of Little Italy that are on the criminal fringe, although they themselves are not criminals. But as they look around them, the criminals of the street are getting richer and the yuppies of the 80s even richer than that. When they are approached by Barney, a locksmith losing his sight (wonderfully portrayed by Kenneth McMillan) who has a plan for a quick score, the two fall in. Once they do, the pasta goes flying.

I won’t go further into the plot. There are some great supporting performances here: Geraldine Page, Burt Young, Tony Musante, Phillip Bosco, and even Daryl Hannah. The direction is top notch. Check out this little period piece of a neighborhood that is rapidly disappearing.

Can you trust the FDA to protect your health? Absolutely not! Despite recieving thousands of very serious complaints about health problems and bad reactions to Aspartame, the FDA refuses to act in the best interest of consumers. Sweet Remedy provides a compelling documentary of the corruption that accompanied this product to it’s FDA approval, and a first hand look at the damage it has wreaked on people’s health.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sweet Remedy: The World Reacts to an Adulterated Food Supply! Click Here

As a person who has suffered greatly from the effects of Aspartame poisoning (methanol poisoning), I can relate first hand to the other victims of this toxic sweetener and the disbelief that those beloved ‘diet cokes’ could be the cause of the maladies (especially by the medical community). You must educate yourself on this and other toxins. I lost many prime years suffering from headaches, memory loss, chronic fatigue, dizziness, and my thinking became so clouded I had to use a calculator to add simple numbers like I was back in first grade again. Thank god for the internet and the ability to find information! That is how I discovered the connection to my health problems and drinking diet cokes (the doctors would have NEVER offered that as a solution).

As a consumer – be aware, be very aware…..

Sweet Remedy is an informative, rather than an entertaining documentary. It drives home the argument that Aspartame, a chemical food sweetner, is linked to a large number of medical disorders, some at the very serious end of the scale, such as MS and brain tumours. The presentation is polemical in character: it doesn’t attempt to provide all sides of the argument, but aggressively attacks the safety of this product. Sceptics will no doubt argue that the the evidence presented is, at best, anecdotal and not powerfully persuasive. But the doco does serve an important public purpose by giving voice to the concerns of those who have suffered serious illnesses and, after eliminating Aspartame from their diet, completely recovered, even in circumstances where conventional medicine could not provide the cure. This is a relatively low budget production with an important, potentially life saving message.

This is an exceptional DVD transfer of an exceptional movie. Criterion has done a magnificent job of restoring Charade to its colorful glory. The film is presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The print is clear, crisp, and beautiful to behold. You feel as if you can reach out and touch the actors.

And what actors! The film features the dashing older version of Cary Grant and the youthful gamine Audrey Hepburn, with enough chemistry between them to ignite a fireworks factory. The plot is a convoluted and flimsy trifle about cold war spy shenanigans, with cases of mistaken identity and episodes of grave danger for Miss Audrey. But Cary, the classic good guy in cad’s clothing, is there to save the day. In addition to which he provides chaste romance that sizzles beneath the civility.

Audio commentary is provided by director Stanley Donen and screenwriter Peter Stone. While interesting and funny in spots, it does drag a bit over the length of the film. It may be better to check it out when you find something in the film that you would like to hear dissected. Otherwise, you’d be better to stick with the delightful, corny dialogue spoken in the dulcet tones of Cary and Audrey. The soundtrack music is to also to be savored, done up in classic ’60s spy movie style by the movie maestro Henry Mancini.

If you have nothing to do on a rainy day and own a DVD player, this is the movie you want to have on hand to pop in the machine and deliver you from care. It’s a keeper (and it comes in a keeper case!).

I got this DVD for Christmas and I wasn’t disappointed. Stanley Donen, director of musicals such as “Singin’ In The Rain” starring Gene Kelly, brought together Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn (who looks luminous, as always) in this wonderfully-written story about a Parisian widow (Hepburn) who is being pursued by three dangerous men (two of which are played by George Kennedy – an excellent “heavy” – and James Coburn at his most menacing) who want to find out about a large sum of money her dead husband supposedly had. Grant is the helpful stranger but eventually you begin to wonder: is he working with these men? Does he want the money for himself? Or is he really the handsome, older man Audrey finds herself falling in love with?

Enhanced by a lush score by the late Henry Mancini, photographed beautifully in Paris and containing first-rate acting and deliciously wicked dialogue by writer Peter Stone, “Charade” is a film that should be in every serious DVD collection. Grant is older but better, like fine wine, and Ms. Hepburn … well there have been millions of words used to describe her and I can’t add to them other than to say the world lost a marvelous talent at her death.

You’ll enjoy “Charade” for a long, long time.

Given the title and subject matter- seaman- you might think that this is the latest release from Falcon (and I’m sure that they or another adult studio has certainly released their version of these classics). You’d be wrong. Horatio Hornblower is instead an epic story of honor, loyalty, and duty. Featuring bloody battles, incredible adventures, and a cast of characters as good as any ever imagined, it’s no wonder that this Emmy Award-winning series got raves from critics and the general public alike.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Horatio Hornblower: Collector’s Edition! Click Here

Based on the novels by C.S. Forester, A&E’s Horatio Hornblower was a made-for-TV series that ran from 1998-2003. The eight individual films that make up this Collector’s Edition chronicle the unlikely rise of young Horatio from lowly midshipman to powerful commander, during the early years of the Napoleonic Wars. The stories are engaging and entertaining, the production grand and lavish, and the overall result brilliant.

Nothing was spared in making these films and they’re worth watching for the visuals alone. (It’s also interesting to note that no computer generated effects were used, which makes the intensity of the battles that much more exciting to watch.) That being said, the story lines are also enthralling, the characters fully developed, and the performances powerful all around. This is a series that will keep anyone engaged; from small children to grandparents.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Horatio Hornblower: Collector’s Edition! Click Here

Each film (or “episode”) runs about an hour and a half, and each can stand independent of the others. Having said that, if you’re going to watch them all, why not watch them in order and add that much more to the experience? The underlying theme to all episodes is strong personal ethics, against all odds, and while that may sound frighteningly preachy, I assure you that the films are not.

These films/episodes have been released previously a number of times, both individually and in sets, including a Collector’s Edition that was released in 2005. If you own the 2005 set, do not buy this new set; as far as I can tell, other than extremely minor changes to the packaging, this is the same product.

Included films/episodes are :: The Duel, The Fire Ships, The Duchess and the Devil, The Wrong War, The Mutiny, Retribution, Loyalty, and Duty.

SPECIAL FEATURES

As if eight films spanning more than 13 hours weren’t enough, the special features and extras are also copious. Two of the episodes (Loyalty and Duty) feature accompanying Filmmaker Commentary, which offers an incredibly thought-provoking and historically interesting look into the making of the series, the background, and the adaptation from page to screen. An Exclusive Interview with star Ioan Gruffudd is just as spellbinding (and with the latter you get the extra bonus of his incredibly good looks!).

Three Bonus Programs (England’s Royal Warships, Sail 2000: Aboard the Eagle, and The Making of Horatio Hornblower) give an exclusive look at English ships from the past to the present, with fascinating descriptions and documentary footage on how these amazing machines are manned and run, as well as the incredible feats they’re capable of. If this isn’t enough for you, check out the Guide to Royal Warships, Nautical Terms and Definitions, and Interactive 3-D Naval Cannon, and you’ll be a master seaman in no time!

For those interested in more background on the original author, a featurette entitled About C.S. Forester is especially interesting, as is the C.S. Forester Biography.

Cast and Crew Biographies are also included, as is a Photo Gallery.

The special features presented with this set are indeed incredible, although I wouldn’t recommend sitting down and watching them all at once. In fact, it’s best absorbed (and more interesting) if you watch one film/episode and one (or part of one) special feature, then take some time to digest and reflect upon them before moving on to another helping.

Final answer :: If you’ve not seen them, this is an extremely entertaining and wonderfully produced series, not to mention an incredibly good buy. If you own the previously released Collector’s Edition however, skip this.

These DVD’s are the finest presentation of any kind that I have ever seen.

To start, the acting is near perfect from the leads to the smaller roles. In addition, the classic C.S. Forester novels have been faithfully adhered to. In closing, the atmosphere, the feel of the sea and the age of fighting sail is perfectly rendered. There have been great sea movies done over the decades; Damn the Defiant, Master and Commander, Horatio Hornblower [Gregory Peck.] These 8 movies, this collector’s edition is at the pinnacle. If you love great film making, and you love the sea, this will be the best $31.50 you will ever ever spend.

There is a scene in Sleepless in Seattle when Sam (Tom Hanks), Suzy (Rita Wilson), and Greg (Victor Garber) are discussing what are frequently referred to as “chick flicks.” Whatever the criteria for selection, there are many candidates for this category which usually include Steel Magnolias. After seeing it again recently, I decided that calling it a “chick flick” demeans what director Herbert Ross and his cast and crew achieved. This film really does have wide and deep appeal to both and men and women of all ages. Of greater significance, it seems even better each time it is seen again. The reverse is true of almost all other films which touch our hearts. As in Robert Harling’s play on which it is based, all of the main characters are women: Clairee Belcher (Olympia Dukakis), M’Lynn Eatenton (Sally Field), Truvy Jones (Dolly Parton), Annelle Depuy Desoto (Daryl Hannah), Ouiser Boudreaux (Shirley MacLaine), and Shelby Eatenton Latcherie (Julia Roberts). MacLaine and Roberts were later nominated for an Academy Award as best actress in a supporting role; a split vote probably cost both an Oscar. My own opinion is that Field, Dukakis, and Hannah were equally deserving of that nomination. In terms of plot, not a great deal happens. The film’s energy is established and then sustained by the interactions between and among the five older women. Keep in mind that this was originally a play whose plot focused almost entirely on the shared experiences of those women. Some of the scenes are hilarious, with MacLaine and Dukakis primarily responsible. However, the film also includes one extended situation which has a genuinely sad conclusion. (It would be a disservice to those who have not as yet seen the film to say any more about that.) I think the acting is first-rate throughout. Most of this film is highly entertaining but whenever necessary and appropriate, Ross examines serious issues with great skill. Two points need to be reiterated: Steel Magnolias can and will appeal to men as well as to women, and, it is more enjoyable each time it is seen again. Those who share my high regard for it are urged to check out Fried Green Tomatoes (1991).

With all the attention Julia Roberts is getting these days, it’s an excellent time to buy and watch the film that contains her best performance, Steel Magnolias.

As the doomed but optimistic daughter of Sally Field and Tom Skerrit, she holds her own in a cast of movie divas, including Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, and (in her best film work, as well), Darryl Hannah.

The film is basically a warm, upbeat character study of a group of women friends, played out in a beautiful Louisiana bayou town. The story begins with Roberts’ wedding, then carries on through the ups and downs of the friends’ lives. The male characters in the story are barely seen, and occasionally come across as insensitive (Roberts’ husband), or buffoons (Hannah’s boyfriend), yet one of the joys of this movie is that you come to love the women so much, you don’t mind the men’s shortcomings, and start liking them, too!

The standout performances of the film are from Roberts, and MacLaine, as a spinster with a sarcastic tongue, and, ultimately, a heart of gold. Her scenes with Dukakis are hilarious, yet full of the warmth that makes this film so special!

A couple of things usually overlooked, but worth mentioning; the enchanting film score (I wish the soundtrack would be rereleased!), and a bit part by Janine Turner, before ‘Northern Exposure’ made her a star.

This is a very special film, for both Roberts’ fans, and anyone who wants to believe in the healing powers of friendship. Yes, this film can be defined as a ‘chick flick’, but guys, you’ll end up enjoying it, too!

Along the way, we do get a new silly song. “Sippy Cup” actually fits into the theme as it finds Larry at a restaurant asking for a real glass instead of a sippy cup even though he has a reputation for spilling. It found it amusing, but I think the target audience will really get into it since they will identify with it.

And really, this entry in the series will appeal to anyone. The action is fast moving and silly enough for the kids. Yet this one spoofs the third Indiana Jones movie pretty well, especially the climax, so adults will enjoy many of the jokes and puns. The moral is a tad heavy handed at times, but that’s my only real complaint. Still, the reminder to do the right thing even if we get laughed at is important.

It still amazes me how much fun these videos can be for all ages while still teaching important Biblical lessons. If you’ve missed these gems, this is as good a place as any to start.

Minnesota Cuke – the loveable children’s museum curator – is back for another Veggie Tales adventure! Following up on his eagerly received premiere appearance in Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Samson’s Hairbrush, Larry takes to the screen again in his role as Minnesota, with both halves of the disc dedicated to his search for Noah’s umbrella.

Written by the same team that brought us the original episode, Tim Hodge and Robert G. Lee spin a tale of intrigue and adventure that shows a distraught Larry that trusting in, and obeying God is all that matters. When some fellow fast food eaters ridicule Larry after singing a song of thanks over his chicken nuggets, Bob realizes that Larry is in need of his own story.

Minnesota Cuke hates being laughed at. Though he’s tried to do right since he was a wee cucumber, he’s just about had it with people making fun of him. The eccentric Mr Muffett (who made his fortune in a best-selling poem about his daughter – “Little Miss Muffett”) is building a Bible-themed goldfish pond in his backyard, and needs to find Noah’s ark to use as the centerpiece.

Larry’s quest takes him on a journey filled with mysterious clues, kidnapping, evil twins, and… lots of people laughing at him along the way. Bolstered by scriptural encouragement from his platonic sidekick Julia – Petunia Rhubarb – and challenged through his trials, he eventually comes to the conclusion that when God is happy with his actions, it doesn’t matter what others think.

After the release of a rather disappointing Abe and the Amazing Promise, I’m thrilled to see that Big Idea is back on track with this, their 38th Veggie Tales episode. With director Mike Narowcki at the helm, and John Wahba as a co-pilot, we’re once again seeing great messages, effectively conveyed through the traditional-style veggie humor that appeals to kids, while offering adults laughs through additional inside jokes and spoofs. The Veggie Tales team openly admits that they were pulling heavily from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade for laughs from older viewers.

I love this 45 minute disc’s format, with Minnesota Cuke filling both story slots, separated by an intermission of a fabulous silly song, “Sippy Cup” by Steve Taylor. This extended length episode almost gives the feeling of one of the Veggie Tales feature films such as Jonah, but remains sandwiched within the bookends of the intro sequence and closing scripture verse.

“Sippy Cup” has become a fast family favourite, hearkening back to the undeniable sing-along appeal and humor of earlier Veggie Tales favourites. It’s an inside joke here now to threaten our children with sippy cups when they spill, and both my six- and three-year-olds can be heard mumbling the tune under their breath throughout the day. The songs within the episode are just as catchy, only I’m the one you’ll find hollering, “The Lord told Noah to build Him an arky, arky… build it out of gopher barky, barky…”

The discs bonus features are even more fun than usual. The spontaneous, transparent, and revealing studio commentaries laid over the film, as well as lessons in drawing Minnesota Cuke and Julia are the high points. An art gallery, sing along with Larry segment, and discussion guide are also included. English and Spanish subtitles are available, along with 5.1 surround sound, and standard scene navigation options are also included. The CG animation is of course, fabulous. After watching these state-of-the-art releases, it makes returning to their older DVDs such as Esther somewhat painful.

I can’t definitively say who was responsible for the mediocre quality of Abe, but I can attest to the fact that Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah’s Umbrella is right up there amongst the Veggie Tales classics. My children have been asking to watch it incessantly, and I hardly mind. The message is great, unmistakably delivered, catchy tunes, lots of laughs – we’ve got a winner! Or as my oldest tells me, “I’d give it eight stars if I could!”
